Wayde Carroll is an award winning freelance image maker based in Anchorage, Alaska and Santa Cruz, California. He has photographed people, landscapes, and adventure, in many far-flung regions around the world. His easy going style, understanding of his client's needs, patience, and attention to detail have garnered satisfied clients that return again and again.
Wayde specializes in on-location commercial, corporate, and editorial assignments. Specialties include adventure lifestyle & travel, Native Alaskans, restaurant/food/service industry, commercial architecture, and environmental portraits. He also leads photography tours around the globe and is the founding member of Lightminded Photo Tours.
Currently Wayde spends considerable time photographing food, lifestyle, architecture, and operations at restaurants in airports and cities across the U.S. and Canada.
Wayde's images have been essential to many award winning advertising and architectural campaigns and have received 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for best magazine cover and best photo feature from the Alaska Press Club. His image of petroglyphs on Wrangell Island was one of four images selected for posters commemorating the Alaska State Parks 40th anniversary and his black and white salmon image was selected to be a part of the juried Alaska Wild exhibition in 2018.
After receiving a B.A. in Art with an emphasis in photography from San Jose State University in 1993, Wayde fled to Alaska to hone his photographic skills. He spent a year documenting the lives of the Yup’ik people in the bush village of Eek, then two years assisting some of Anchorage’s top photographers including portrait master Clark James Mishler and adveture guru Tom Bol. He quit his “real job” and started working full-time as a photographer in 2006.
He is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP)/ Alaska Chapter, and the Alaska Society of Outdoor and Nature Photographers(ASONP), as well as Visit Anchorage. His images are regularly published in numerous regional and national magazines, books, calendars, websites, newspapers, and annual reports. Clients include HMS Host, MSI Communications, Smithsonian Center for Arctic Studies, Smithsonian Journeys Magazine, Alaska Conservation Foundation, Alaska Humanities Forum, Ravn Airlines, Stantec Inc., Premera, Nvision, Reuters, National Geographic Maps, Alaska Magazine, First Alaskans Magazine, California Tour and Travel, Sierra Heritage, Anchorage Daily News, The Sacramento Bee, The Milepost, BP, and Providence Hospital among others.
